New Intel Health Device arms doctors to keep an eye on patient’s health status electronically. United States Food and Drug Administration have approved the new piece of equipment.
The personal healthcare system-- Intel Health Guide is an 8lb gadget manufactured by the world's largest semi-conductor company, Intel, which facilitates the patient to remain in touch with the doctor.
Intel Health Guide comprises a small touch-screen PC running Windows XP, 40GB hard drive and a web portal that can be used by the patients to stay updated with their health status and physical condition.
In addition to this the medical device also preserves the sensitive records like vital-sign collection, educational content and motivational messages.
An important feature of this system is that it manages and saves all the records as electronic data and it reminds the patient about important dates of medication and other check ups.
The patient can get himself checked while sitting at home. This facility can be really beneficial for the elderly who are bed ridden.
Various wired and wireless devices such as blood pressure monitors, glucose meters, pulse oximeters and peak flow meters can be connected to the machine.
The health management tool - The Intel Health Guide permits doctors to communicate with the patient through e-mail and videoconferencing.
Via Intel's Health Care Management Suite, the Health Guide can send the vital information of the patient to the remote database of health care professional’s device and both the parties can engage in a videoconferencing to discuss the health issue.
The main advantage of this tool is that it would help cut out on the hospitalization charges in case of patients with chronic health problems such as diabetes and congestive heart failure and reduce financial burden on the patient, the insurance and health care companies, ultimately putting the companies in a better state to provide more personalized care and services.
Thus, the machine would save the time of both the doctor and the patient.
According to the plans, the Health Guide would be commercially launched by Intel either towards the end of this year or early next year.
The Health Guide has gone through a number of experiments in the United States and the United Kingdom and is still expected to go through more tests and research.
"This is an important product that will improve the state and cost of health care around the world," Louis Burns, vice president and general manager of Intel's Digital Health Group, said.
