"Brangelina" Twins Finally Arrive on Earth

Finally, the great birth of year 2008 has occurred!!! Not a mere rumor, but the news is real this time. Michel Sussman, Hollywood star Angelina Jolie’s doctor at a hospital in southern France, confirmed Sunday that the actress has given birth to her twins, a boy and a girl.

Sussman said the 33-year-old Oscar winning actress gave birth to a boy, Knox Leon, and a girl, Vivienne Marcheline, by Caesarean section about 8 p.m. Saturday at the Lenval hospital in Nice, France.

Jolie's 44-year old partner Brad Pitt was at her side during the delivery, looking on as the doctor performed the Caesarean section to deliver the twins.

Knox, weighing in at slightly over 5 pounds, and Vivienne, weighing in 5 pounds, and their mother are doing well and are expected to stay in the hospital for few more days.

. “He (Pitt) was very happy. ... The emotion was very strong for him,” said Sussmann. “Angelina Jolie was speaking, was laughing with her husband. They were happy.”

The Brangelina twins, who were born one minute apart Saturday evening, have become the ultimate million-dollar babies soon after their birth. A local newspaper in Nice says Pitt and Jolie have sold the rights to the first photograph of the baby celebrities to a U.S. newspaper for $11 million, with the money going to charity.

Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi arrived at the hospital on Sunday afternoon to sign the birth certificates for the twins. "I congratulate the happy parents, the most famous couple in the world, who have chosen our city for this happy event ... The newborns are, history will not forget it, real Nicois, citizens of Nice," said Estrosi. As he left, he showed the birth certificates to the waiting photographers and cameramen.

The celebrity couple, known in the media as "Brangelina", has four other children, 3 adopted and one biological daughter, all under the age of seven. The twins brought the number of children of the world’s most beautiful family to six.

The Academy Award-winning actress has a son Maddox, 6, whom she adopted in neighboring Cambodia in 2002, a 3 years old daughter Zahara, whom she adopted in year 2006 from Ethiopia, Pax, 4, from Vietnam, and a 21-month-old biological daughter, Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, with Brad Pitt, of "Ocean's Eleven" fame. The twins are couple’s fifth and sixth children.

Born on June 4, 1975 to the pillow-lipped Jon Voight and actress Marcheline Bertrand, Jolie is an American film star and a Goodwill Ambassador for the UN Refugee Agency. She is often cited by popular media as one of the world's most beautiful women. The actress won an Oscar in 1999 for best supporting actress in "Girl, Interrupted".

She starred in the 2001 movie "Tomb Raider" which was filmed in Cambodia, neighbouring Vietnam. She has received three Golden Globe Awards, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an Academy Award.
