Doctor Thomas D. Rosenberg and doctor Vernon J. Cooley, who did arthroscopic surgery on that same knee for Woods in April, performed the procedure in Park City, Utah on Tuesday. They said the procedure to repair the anterior cruciate ligament went well, and said the golfer shouldn't have any long- term problems after undergoing his latest reconstructive surgery.

"We were confident going in to this surgery and I am pleased with the results," said Dr. Rosenberg said in a statement. "There were no surprises during the procedure, and as we have said, with the proper rehabilitation and training, it is highly unlikely that Mr. Woods will have any long-term effects as it relates to his career."

The 32-year-old top-ranked golfer is also recovering from two stress fractures in his left tibia, the inner and larger of the two bones of the lower human leg, extending from the knee to the ankle.

On his Website, Woods the only three-time (1994–96) U.S. amateur champion, said that it was important to have the surgery quickly to give him sufficient time for rehabilitation.

"It was important to me to have the surgery as soon as possible so that I could begin the rehabilitation process," Woods said in a statement. "I am very appreciative of Dr. Rosenberg and Dr. Cooley and his staff's guidance and look forward to working with them through the necessary rehabilitation and training. I look forward to working hard at my rehabilitation over the coming months and returning to the PGA Tour healthy next year."

Woods’ latest reconstructive surgery, his third in the last five years, comes eight days after he bagged his third U.S. Open title in a 19-hole playoff against Rocco Mediate at Torrey Pines.

Woods tore the ligament in his knee after the 2007 British Open while running near his home in Orlando, Florida, and then underwent arthroscopic surgery on April 15.

Born Eldrick Tiger Woods on December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California to Thai mother and an African American father, Woods made golfing history when he won the prestigious Masters tournament of golf on April 13, 1997.

In 2001, the champion golfer became one of an elite group of golfers to simultaneously hold the four major tournament titles: US Open, British Open, PGA Championship and Masters.
