Scarlett Johansson gets engaged to Ryan Reynolds

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson decided to brace her year-long relationship with boyfriend Ryan Reynolds as the two got engaged. The news was confirmed by Johansson's rep. Marcel Pariseau.

"They’re both thrilled," Pariseau said while making the news public.

The 23-year-old showed off her engagement ring on Monday night at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala.

Reynolds, 31 had ended his relationship of four years with singer Alanis Morissette in February 2007. In the following spring, Johansson appeared in the picture and the two have been going strong ever since.

Scarlett was previously dating her ‘Black Dahlia’ co-star, Josh Hartnett, for about two years until the end of 2006.

The actress was reportedly seen shopping for wedding dresses at Monique Lhuillier's Melrose Place boutique in L.A., with her mother and sister, in February. The speculation about her plans was just ignited when the shopping spree was officially explained as being for a family member's wedding.

Reynolds is currently working in ‘The Proposal’ in Boston with Sandra Bullock, while Johansson is expected to be seen next in Woody Allen's ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ and ‘He's Just Not That Into You,’ produced by Drew Barrymore. Most recently, she starred in ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ alongside Natalie Portman.

A source close to Johansson revealed that she and Reynolds have actually been affianced "for a little while," and the engagement was on the down-low because "they want to keep things private."
