Three Actors to Assume Heath's Last Role in Magic Movie

The fate of Terry Gilliam's latest film "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" until now was unclear because of the untimely death of its star, Australian actor Heath Ledger. Now, three of Ledger’s friends, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell, have come forward to save the movie.

The three reportedly will play the same character, ‘Tony,’ at different parts in the film that their friend, the late Heath Ledger, was making when he died. In the movie, the hero enters three different dimensions through a mirror, each transporting him into new worlds.

“Fortunately, because the film deals with magic, there is a way of turning Heath into other people,” Christopher Plummer, who plays the title role in the movie, said.

Ledger was found dead on Jan. 22 by his housekeeper and massage therapist in a bedroom in his Manhattan apartment. Sleeping pills and anti-anxiety drugs were also found at the site. There were no illegal drugs.

Police announced on Jan. 23, a day after the actor's body was discovered, that an initial autopsy proved unconvincing.

Earlier this month online reports surfaced saying that the actor has died of an accidental overdose of drugs, as he consumed a cocktail of prescription drugs that included an addictive painkiller. According to several reports, six medicines were found in Ledger’s system.

The drugs found in the ‘Brokeback Mountain’ actor’s body were: The painkillers oxycodone (in its long-acting form, OxyContin) and hydrocodone (Vicodin); the anti-anxiety and anti-insomnia drugs diazepam (Valium), temazepam (Restoril), and alprazolam (Xanax); and doxylamine (Unisom), an antihistamine used as a sleep aid.

Taking many drugs at a time can slow their breakdown in the liver, thus raising the level of drug still in the body. That is probably what happened in Ledger’s case where the level of the drugs was not high but their combination proved lethal.

Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Lily Cole, Andrew Garfield and Verne Troyer are the other cast members in the unfinished "Parnassus," which is being produced by William Vince, Amy Gilliam and Samuel Hadida's banner.

Since Ledger’s death, director Terry, who teamed up with the actor earlier on The Brothers Grimm, has made immense efforts to save the production.

"He very much wants to go on with the movie," revealed Plummer. "I can very much understand why – because he wants to dedicate it to Heath, of course."

The movie depicts the story of a traveling circus troupe that via through a deal with the devil takes members of their audience through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations.
