The results of America’s Got Talent are out. And the winner is… no, there is no break preceding this announcement in this bulletin, unlike in the show itself, where Jerry Springer, the presenter, gave a dramatic pause to the announcement at the end of the grand finale with that bugbear of TV viewers – a commercial break.

The official winner of America’s Got Talent, the show that went on air through NBC, is ventriloquist Terry Fator. The 42-year old Texan was officially voted the best amateur talent in America by viewers across the country on Tuesday.
It was the big payday for Fator, as he pocketed a cool million for throwing his voice around. In the final four, Terry was up against reggae singer Cas Haley, human beatbox Antoinette ‘Butterscotch’ Clinton, and 14- year old singer Julienne Irvine. Finally it was Fator versus Haley in the face-off.
The 42-year old Fator and his puppets were major hits, driving home his talent to the judges and the audience alike with his impersonation of a range of celebrities, including Garth Brooks and Etta James, all the while not moving his lips.
Applauding his performance, judge Sharon Osborne, no stranger to fame herself, told Fator he had given a new twist to the concept of being a ventriloquist. Another judge, Piers Morgan complimented his performance as well, saying he was a great impersonator, singer, and comedian.
The grand finale to the competition itself was a 2-hour extravaganza featuring a range of acts – the contestants performing with celebrity acts (Fator sang along with his turtle puppet and Kermit the Frog), David Hasselhoff with a rendition of his song This is the Moment, and the top 10 finalists coming back one last time to show off their talent.
Fator was ecstatic about his win, saying he had wanted to put in a million-dollar performance. He thanked America for their support, and ended with a rendition, assisted by his puppet, of Crying by Roy Orbison as confetti showers cascaded down.
While purists may say this winner is nowhere of the stature of the original Britain’s Got Talent, Terry is still a winner, and an out and out entertainer. The winner of the British version was the wunderkid opera singer – Paul Potts.
The purists may say whatever they want. Fact is Fator won, and the grand finale also saw 10.8 million viewers watching it, making America’s Got Talent the most watched television program for the week.

He deserved to win!
What a thrill for Terry Fator. I think one of the things my friends and I like most about Terry is his humility. He said he was "honored to be on the same stage with Cas Haley" and you knew he meant it. Don't get me wrong I think Cas Haley is awesome and the boy can sing and I did vote for him too, but when one considers that Terry created his characters, is an incredible ventriloquist, a great stand-up comedian, and has an amazing singing voice and repetroire how could he not win. How did one man pull off singing a Dean Martin song, including all of Dean's mannerisms, and then do Tony Bennett a few seconds later and capture the essence of Tony the way he did with one puppet? It's simply amazing. Congratulations, Terry!
