Thank God, this study, on GLYCERINE ( as an alternative source of GLUCOSE ) for the innocent and poor animals, was done in the United States, and not in India and China--the two notorious countries where glycerine sometimes gets substituted with low-priced DI-ETHYLENE-GLYCOL ( DEG ) which is a well known toxic compound, having taken heavy human toll in many countries of the world. Whereas glycerine can be substituted with ETHYLENE GLYCOL ( EG ) and PROPYLENE GLYCOL ( PG ) as pharmaceutical base, but never with DEG. All these three chemicals are colorless viscous liquids, and are apparently indistinguishable unless tested and identified under strict quality control.

Medical poisoning cases by DEG resulted in acute renal failure in 36 children aged 2 months to 6 years who were admitted to two hospitals in Delhi between 1 April and 9 June 1998 [J. Singh, et al., Bull. World Health Organ., 2001; 79 (2): 88-95 ]. Similarly, the contamination of a medicine named ACETAMINOPHEN, with DEG had occurred in Haiti in 1995 and 1996. Sometime back DEG killed several people in China [ by a medicine manufactured by Qiqihar No 2 Pharmaceutical Company ]. More recently this chemical killed so many people in Panama.
Composed of 2 ethylene glycol residues, joined by an ether bond, DEG has many industrial uses but is too toxic for use in any food material, not to speak of using it in any injectible. In the spurious medicines tested in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, the DEG concentration was found to be 14.4 %. Similarly, a formulation of the syrups using glycerin of Chinese origin was also found to be contaminated with 24% DEG [ Ref. : A. D. Woollf, J. Am. Med. Ass., 1998;279:1215-1216 ].
The EG and PG are the look alikes of gylerine, and are quite ofted used in medicine in place of glycerine, and after reaching the body, they affects the body's chemistry by increasing the amount of acid. Propylene glycol gets metabolized in the human body into non-toxic LACTIC ACID. This is the very acid which occurs naturally as muscles are exercised. Similarly, EG is metabolized to OXALIC ACID, which is toxic in nature. But the metabolization of DEG, when wantonly reaches into human body system, is likely to result in the formation of a cocktail of toxic acids, aldehydes, ketones, and possibly methanol also. It is difficult to save human life from this deadly cocktail produced by DEG.
Unless price of glycerine is reduced drastically ( by abolishing excise and sales tax on this item ), human and animal deaths caused by treacherous manufacturers of certain pharmaceuticals can not be stopped,


This is another example of big-business industry trying to dispose of a waste by-product improperly by putting it in animal feed. The same issue of glycerin was being investigated for use in chicken feed to determine how much could be added to the food before the chickens stopped eating and gaining weight before being sent to market.
Do you want to eat meat of animals that consumed glycerin? Did you all look at the 38 food "additives" that were placed before legislation to be added to our foods? Did you know that companies want to change the definition of ice cream and cheese so that "additives" can be included -- which translates to being cheaper for manufacturers without providing the nutrition and "REAL" ingredients?
TO BIG BUSINESS: SHELL OUT SOME MONEY AND DISPOSE OF YOUR INDUSTRIAL WASTES PROPERLY AND DON'T ADD THEM TO THE HUMAN FOOD SUPPLY (ANIMALS FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION).
