Dell, the world’s leading PC manufacturer rolled out new Latitude D630, D830 and D531 notebook PCs today, making an endeavor to cater to the greater than ever consumer demand for better performance and connectivity supplemented with a longer battery life. The company is looking to focus on compatibility and efficiency with its latest range of notebooks. The company claims that the systems deliver decent energy efficiency with their select Energy Star 4.0 compliant configurations. "Energy efficiency is important with this release," Brett McAnally, senior product manager for Dell's Latitude division, said. "The other part is increasing productivity for the mobile user." The new Latitude D630 will feature a 14 inch screen while D830 will have a slightly wider 15 inch screen. Both will run on Intel Core 2 Duo processors bundled with Gen-Next wireless technologies and extensive battery life of up to 9.4 hours. The Latitude D531, possessing an AMD Turion 64 and Sempron processor will also be available. Also, on the agenda are: an ultra-portable model, having similar features but with a reduced, 12 inch screen and a Latitude notebook to run on the Intel Centrino chip. “Customers are sending us the message that they want mobile products with latest features but no added complexities that can distract them from building their businesses. We hear their message and are committed to leading the industry with customizable systems that can easily be tailored to meet ownership and productivity needs of our customers,” said Sameer Garde, GM-Sales, Dell India, All three of the latest notebooks support fully encrypted hard drive that enables maximum security with no performance loss, Optional solid state (SSD) drive to give the users an enhanced experience of performance, reliability and durability as the flash-based storage has no moving parts. The display of these notebooks is up to 38 percent brighter than the previous generations, claims the company. The Latitude D630 and D830 weigh 2kg and 2.7kg respectively while D531 weighs 2.3kg. They will all be compatible with Dell's previous docks and power adaptors, and will use the same disk image format as existing models. According to McAnally, the selling point for IT departments will be the ease of transition and integration. "The key thing is to minimize the disruption for IT organizations and to find ways to simplify their environment," said McAnally. "At the end of the day, I think [companies] value that commonality, that simplification." |
