COL BKB: Villanova 84, La Salle 81

Philadelphia -- Maalik Wayns' 3-point play with 1:09 left put No. 12 Villanova ahead for good Sunday and the Wildcats went on to post an 84-81 win over La Salle.

Wayns' bucket and free throw put Villanova up 81-79. Corey Fisher made three foul shots down the stretch and Sam Mills couldn't connect on a potential game-tying 3-pointer for La Salle as time expired.

Wayns finished with 19 points and Fisher and Corey Stokes each added 16 for Villanova (8-1).

The Explorers (6-4) benefited from 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists from Jerrell Williams in the loss.
