Showtime renews 'Dexter' for Season 6

The announcement was made Monday by David Nevins, president of entertainment of Showtime Networks.

Season 5 of the show, starring Michael C. Hall, wraps up Sunday night.
Season 6's episodes are to go into production next spring in Los Angeles.

"'Dexter' is the best suspense drama on television," Nevins said in statement Monday. "To grow its audience so significantly in its fifth season is an enormous accomplishment by this amazing cast and crew. This is the easiest decision I've made since I got to Showtime."

Hall plays a complicated and conflicted blood-spatter expert for the Miami police department who moonlights as a serial killer, Showtime said in a synopsis.

Season 5 of the series co-starred Jennifer Carpenter, Desmond Harrington, C.S. Lee, Lauren Velez, David Zayas and James Remar.
