Yanks continue contract talks with Jeter

The New York Times said the meeting Tuesday, first reported by foxsports.com, was confirmed by two people in baseball.
Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman left New York refusing to comment late Tuesday night.

The Yankees seem to be holding to their offer of $45 million over three years. Jeter's side is seeking four or five years at $23 million or $24 million per year.

Jeter's agent, Casey Close, has emphasized his client's value to the Yankee brand. The Yankees, through Cashman, have pointed to his career-worst 2010 season and question his long-term viability as a shortstop turning 37 next year.

Cashman invited Jeter to test the open market last week, though the star player has never shown interest in playing elsewhere.

One team with a shortstop vacancy, the San Francisco Giants, filled it by signing a deal with Miguel Tejada Tuesday. The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Juan Uribe to play multiple infield positions for three years.
