Oregon, Auburn rule coaches' football poll

Mclean, Va. -- Oregon remained No. 1 and second-ranked Auburn moved closer to the top in the USA Today Coaches' football poll with the 2010 season winding down.

Oregon (11-0) lost three first-place votes this week but amassed 46 of the 59 and totaled 1,459 points, the same as last week. Auburn (12-0) staged a huge comeback that beat Alabama and allowed the Tigers to win six more first-place votes and 1,419 poll points -- 21 more than a week ago.

Texas Christian (12-0) got the other three first-place votes and moved back to No. 3, which was vacated by Boise State. Wisconsin (11-1) was also up one spot to fourth and Stanford (11-1) went from eighth to fifth.

Ohio State (11-1) comes in at sixth, ahead of No. 7 Michigan State (11-1). Arkansas (10-2) and Oklahoma (10-2) each improved four places to eighth and ninth, respectively. Boise State (10-1) fell from third to 10th with an overtime loss to Nevada.

Virginia Tech (10-2) comes in 11th with Louisiana State (10-2), sixth a week ago, at 12th. Nebraska and Missouri, both 10-2, moved up two places each to 13th and 14th while another Big 12 member, Oklahoma State (10-2), was down six spots to 15th after losing to Oklahoma.

South Carolina (9-3) is 16th and Nevada (11-1), despite the win over Boise State, moved up just two places to 17th. Texas A&M (9-3) was unchanged at 18th and Alabama (9-3) paid for not holding the lead on Auburn with a fall of eight places to 19th. Florida State (9-3) is at 20th.

Utah (10-2) is 21st and Mississippi State (8-4) moved to 22nd. No. 23 Northern Illinois (10-2), 24th-ranked West Virginia (8-3) and No. 25 Central Florida (9-3) were unranked a week ago.

Arizona, North Carolina State and Iowa dropped out of the rankings this week.
