Stanzi hit Martin McNutt with 2:50 to play to take the lead, and the Hawkeyes (7-2, 4-1 Big 10) survived a last-ditch Indiana drive for the win that ended when Damarlo Belcher could not hold on to what would have been the winning TD pass.
Indiana (4-5, 0-5) led 13-9 at the start of the fourth quarter thanks to a 1-yard run by quarterback Ben Chappell, but Iowa pulled to 13-12 on Michael Meyer's 42-yard field goal with 8:33 to play.
Stanzi began the winning drive on his own 12 with 3:42 to play and connected with McNutt on the right sideline three plays later.
Stanzi completed 22-of-33 passes for 290 yards and one touchdown.
Meyer kicked four field goals and Marcus Coker led the ground game with 129 yards on 22 carries.
Chappell was 27-of-46 for 222 yards.
