Samantha Williams, 29, said her son, Jahmari, spent 10 months at the Brooklyn Hospital Center after his September 2009 birth and still spends a few days each month at the hospital being monitored, the New York Daily News reported Friday.
Doctors said Jahmari is expected to be able to breathe without a ventilator within the next few months. They said they are optimistic about the boy's future.
"He was a lot more sick than the average premature baby," said Dr. Rohit Pinto, a pediatric intensive care specialist for the hospital. "But he never had any issues with his brain, and that's the reason we are so optimistic about him."
"He can have a normal life," he said.
