Wozniacki, playing her final round-robin match, took out Francesca Schiavone 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. She was clearly outplayed in the first set but only faced one break point after that.
The decision means Wozniacki will keep the No. 1 spot she took over Oct. 11 through the end of the year.
It also put her on the verge of advancing to the WTA Championships semifinals.
Samantha Stosur, despite losing 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) Thursday to Elena Dementieva, has secured one of the Top 2 Maroon Group places. She and Wozniacki are 2-1 in round-robin play (Stosur beat Wozniacki Wednesday) while Dementieva is 1-1 and Schiavone is 0-2.
Kim Clijsters' 6-4, 5-7, 6-1 win Thursday over Victoria Azarenka meant she and Vera Zvonareva will represent the White Group in Saturday's semifinals. Azarenka kept the match alive by winning a 20-point game to win the second set, but Clijsters took the first five games of the third set to seal the match.
Round-robin play finishes up Friday with Schiavone playing Dementieva, Zvonareva facing Clijsters and Jankovic going against Azarenka. The match between Zvonareva and Clijsters will decide the White Group champion.
