NBA: Dallas 101, Charlotte 86

Dallas -- Dirk Nowitzki helped Dallas to a quick start Wednesday and the Mavericks rolled to a 101-86 triumph over Charlotte.

Dallas scored the game's first 16 points in a span of 5:13 and although Charlotte rallied to briefly take the lead late in the second quarter, the second half was dominated by the Mavericks.

Nowitzki scored 28 points and collected 13 rebounds. Jason Terry added 22 points and Jason Kidd handed out 18 assists, the most he has ever had in his 16 season-opening games. It was the 13th time the two teams have met and the Mavericks have
won all of them.

Tyrus Thomas scored 22 points to pace the Bobcats, who made the playoffs last season for the first time in franchise history.
