Trio held in parking scam near playoffs

St. Petersburg, Fla. -- Three homeless people plotted to cheat fans parking at a playoff game between the Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers, St. Petersburg, Fla., police said.

Anthony Pawle, 54, Garry Townsend, 47, and Abigail Hill, 26, allegedly took over a vacant garage near Tropicana Field Tuesday and posted signs advertising parking spaces for $20, police told the St. Petersburg Times.

Officers discovered the scheme quickly and it appeared no one parked at the garage. The three, listed as transients in jail records, were arrested on trespassing charges.

"The property owner had no idea, nor was permission given to park vehicles upon this property," arrest affidavits stated.
