Phillies' Polanco out for Game 1 NLDS

Philadelphia -- Philadelphia third baseman
was scratched from the Phillies' first playoff game Wednesday because of a sore back.

"He came in and told me that he couldn't bend over," Phillies Manager Charlie Manuell said. "He said it hurt when he bent over. He said it hurt when he turned left or right. I'm concerned."

Wilson Valdez was penciled in for Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Cincinnati Reds.

Polanco, who also has had problems with his left elbow this year, hit .298 in the regular season while Valez hit .258 in 111 games, mostly at shortstop.
