Halladay credits catcher in no-hitter

Philadelphia -- Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Roy Halladay gave credit to catcher Carlos Ruiz Wednesday after throwing a historic playoff no-hitter against Cincinnati.

Halladay made the first post-season start of his illustrious career a memorable one, firing his second no-hitter of the season in a 4-o victory that gave the Phillie a 1-0 advantage in their National League Division Series with the Reds.

The right-hander gave much of the credit for the second post-season no-hitter in major league history to Ruiz in a press conference after the game, saying the receiver instinctively knew what pitches to call for.

"I thought we used everything well today," Halladay said. "The change-up was big for me today and the curve ball was good.

"I always go back to it, but Ruiz has done a great job of recognizing early on what's working and calling for that."

Ruiz also played a big role on the final out of the game. Brandon Phillips took a big swing at a Halladay pitch but nubbed it out in the front of the plate.

The ball bumped against against Phillips' discarded bat and Ruiz had to scramble to pick it up, throwing from his knees to nip Phillips for the final out.
