Denver -- Tim Lincecum shut Colorado down on two hits over eight innings Friday and the San Francisco Giants hung onto first place in the NL West with a 2-1 victory.

Lincecum (15-10) baffled the Rockies on one run, walking none and striking out nine to give the Giants a major-league record 18th straight game in which they've held the opposition to three runs or fewer.

Pat Burrell's two-run homer to left in the seventh inning erased a 1-0 deficit and allowed San Francisco to retain first place in the National League West. The Giants entered the contest with a half-game lead over the San Diego Padres.

Jhoulys Chacin (9-10) took a loss, a bitter one for the Rockies as they struggled to make up ground in the NL West. He yielded two runs on three hits over seven innings.

Third-place Colorado fell for the fifth straight time, dropping 4 1/2 games behind San Francisco. They remained 3 1/2 games behind Atlanta in the NL wild-card chase.
