Haynesworth, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, signed a reported $100 million deal last year as one of the top nose tackles in the NFL. But an ankle injury limited his play to 12 games last season and Shanahan said he was "quite disappointed" when Haynesworth was a no-show at this summer's minicamp.
Shanahan said then he was willing to trade or release him if he gave up a $21 million bonus he accepted. Trade rumors surfaced again this week, with the Redskins reportedly in talks with the Tennessee Titans about Haynesworth.
But Wednesday Shanahan told reporters, "Albert will be with us this week, for sure," The Washington Post reported.
The newspaper cited unnamed sources saying the nose tackle and the coach met after Monday's practice. Shanahan remarked, "You might not think we ever communicate, but we do sometimes. Even though the sources have not talked about us communicating."
