Rangers' Hamilton out with bruised ribs

Minneapolis -- Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton, a candidate for American League MVP award, is out indefinitely with a bruised left ribcage, the team said Sunday.

Hamilton hurt his ribs when he banged against the centerfield wall while making a catch in Saturday's loss to the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, leaving with what the Rangers called severe discomfort.

The All-Star also hurt his ribs last year and missed 13 games while on the disabled list.

Hamilton has put up tremendous numbers this season for the first-place Rangers, leading the AL with a .362 batting average. He has also smacked 31 homers and driven in 97 runs.
