Castroneves saves fuel, wins Kentucky

Sparta, Ky. -- Helio Castroneves went the final 53 laps without pitting, conserving enough fuel Saturday to win the IZOD IndyCar Series race at Kentucky Speedway.

Castroneves grabbed the lead down the stretch while other competitors made pit stops to refuel, taking his second victory of the season and the 18th of his IndyCar career.

His other win this year came at the Barber Motorsports Park road course in Birmingham, Ala.

Pole sitter Ed Carpenter came in second, matching his career-best finish. Dan Wheldon finished third, Tony Kanaan grabbed fourth place and Dario Franchitti ended in the fifth spot.

Will Power led much of the race but bumped into the wall after a late pit stop and fell to eighth place. He maintained a 17-point lead over Franchitti in the IndyCar standings with just two races to go in the season.
