The division-leading Padres, who began the day with a four-game lead over San Francisco in the National League West, lost their seventh straight.

Allen was called up from Class AAA Reno Wednesday, the first day major league rosters could be expanded. He went 2-for-3 and hit his fifth major league homer in the seventh inning to bring the Diamondbacks back from a 2-1 deficit.

Allen's other four home runs came last year, when he played 32 games with the Chicago White Sox and Arizona.

Barry Enright (6-2) allowed two runs on nine hits in seven innings to get the victory. Arizona has won six of its last seven.

San Diego starter Mat Latos equaled a career best with 10 strikeouts and surrendered a lone run in six innings -- that coming on a homer by Chris Young in the sixth.

Luke Gregerson came on for the Padres in the seventh and Arizona promptly loaded the bases on a walk, a fielding error by shortstop Miguel Tejada and an infield single by Gerardo Parra.

Allen followed by hitting a 1-1 pitch from Gregerson (3-7) over the wall in right. Juan Gutierrez worked around a ninth-inning single to collect his sixth save.
