MLB: Seattle 4, Boston 2 (2nd game)

Boston -- Felix Hernandez struck out nine in a 122-pitch, 7 1/3-inning effort Wednesday and the Seattle Mariners earned a doubleheader split with 4-2 win over Boston.

The Red Sox won the opener of the day-night doubleheader 5-3.

Hernandez (10-10) allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk. He reached 1,000 strikeouts for his career, becoming the third-youngest player to do so.

Jose Lopez drove in two runs with a third-inning single to give the Mariners a 3-0 lead. Seattle grabbed a 4-1 advantage in the sixth on an RBI single from Matt Tuiasosopo.

Tim Wakefield (3-10) suffered the loss, surrendering four runs on eight hits in 5 2/3 innings. Brandon League worked the final 1 2/3 innings to pick up his fourth save.
