Verlander (14-8) fanned eight, scattered seven hits and walked only one, raising his record against Cleveland over the past two seasons to 6-0. The Detroit ace tossed 115 pitches in the dominating performance, 82 of them for strikes.
Will Rhymes went 4-for-5, drove in a run and scored three times and Jhonny Peralta collected three RBI for the Tigers, who outscored the Indians 19-3 in the three-game weekend sweep.
Cleveland starter Jeanmar Gomez (3-2) lasted only three innings, surrendering eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits.
Shin-Soo Choo went 3-for-4 with a home run for Cleveland.
