MLB: New York Yankees 6, Detroit 2

New York -- CC Sabathia won his 16th game with seven strong innings and Nick Swisher drove in two runs Tuesday in the New York Yankees' 6-2 decision over Detroit.

Sabathia (16-5) gave up only two runs on five hits, surrendering three walks and fanning nine to become the American League leader in victories.

Swisher's two-run single in the first inning erased a 1-0 deficit and put the Yankees ahead for good. Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson added solo homers for New York, which entered the contest tied with Tampa Bay atop the American League East.

Detroit ace Justin Verlander (13-8) was hurt by wildness, walking five in five innings.

Austin Jackson and Brandon Inge homered for the Tigers.
