MLB: Detroit 3, Tampa Bay 2

Detroit -- Justin Verlander gutted his way through six innings and Ryan Raburn homered Wednesday in the Detroit Tigers' 3-2 win over Tampa Bay.

Verlander (13-7) struggled with his control, issuing three walks, but got key outs when he needed them. The Tigers ace walked three but struck out seven, yielding six hits en route to his first win since July 22.

Ryan Perry tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief and Jose Valverde notched his 22nd save despite allowing a run in the ninth.

Raburn's two-run shot in the sixth broke a 1-1 tie and allowed Detroit to salvage one win in a three-game series with the Rays.

Tampa Bay starter Matt Garza (11-7) was saddled with the defeat, allowing three runs on seven hits in a 5 2/3-inning effort.

The Rays fell a full game behind the New York Yankees in the American League East with the setback.
