Perry displeased with Tyler's 'Idol' buzz

Boston -- Aerosmith's Joe Perry admits he was irked to read on the Internet about the possibility lead singer Steven Tyler might become an "American Idol" judge.

The 40-year-old rock band recently started touring again after Tyler finished a stint in rehab and settled his differences with Perry, the band's co-founder and guitarist.

"I found out on the Internet like the rest of the world," Perry told The Boston Herald of the "Idol" reports. "There was an Aerosmith after party at Studio 54 after the Vegas show -- which none of us in the band knew anything about -- and he said some stuff there. I mean, this is no small thing."

Tyler was quoted as saying at the Vegas party that his plans included "recording an album and (I'm) probably going to be a judge on 'American Idol...' I'm doing it. What do you think? I'm doing it."

Although there are two openings on the judges' panel for the next "Idol" season, the singing competition show's producers have not announced any replacements.
"I mean, after working with me for 40 years, he couldn't tell me about this," the Herald reported Perry said. "Why so secretive? We're told it's a done deal. If Steven is committed to a TV show, that kind of affects the rest of us. We'd like to plan our lives, ya know?"
