Davydenko wins German Open second-rounder

Hamburg, Germany -- No. 1-seed Nikolay Davydenko breezed through a second-round victory Tuesday at that German Open tennis tournament.

Davydenko defeated Florent Serra 6-3, 6-1 in less than an hour. Davydenko didn't face a break point and lost a mere nine points -- three on double faults -- over eight service games.

Sixth-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero also advanced to the third round, beating Jan Hajek 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 while losing only 13 points in the second set, but three seeded players were beaten.

Ninth-seeded Gilles Simons was ousted by Jarkko Nieminen 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, despite winning more points (93-90) overall than Nieminen; 11th-seeded Tommy Robredo fell to Potito Starace 7-6 (12-10), 5-7, 6-1; and No. 15-seeded Alexandr Dolgopolov lost to Florian Mayer 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-3.

Other second-round matches saw Andrey Golubev top Marcel Granollers 6-4, 7-5; Maximo Gonzalez beat Albert Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (3-7), 6-2; and Fabio Fognini advance 6-4, 6-4 over Marc Gicquel.

The German Open first round was completed with straight-set wins by Julian Reister, Eduardo Schwank, Juan Ignacio Chela and Andreas Seppi.
