Almagro upsets Soderling for Sweden crown

Bastad -- Nicolas Almagro of Spain got in the way of Robin Soderling's hopes for a second straight Swedish Open title Sunday, posting a three-set win in Bastad.

Almagro upset the top-seeded local favorite 7-5, 3-6, 6-2, gaining his sixth career ATP Tour championship and first since Acapulco in February 2009.

Almagro broke serve in Sunday's 11th game and held it in the next game, taking the first set. But Soderling bounced back, winning the first three games of the second set.

The Spaniard responded by gaining the break for a 4-2 lead in the final set and coasted after that, closing out the victory by taking the final two games.

Soderling's record in ATP finals fell to 5-10, including his loss to Rafael Nadal in the finals of the French Open.
