Soderling, the world No. 5 and the tournament's top seed, claimed a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-2 win over Andreas Vinciguerra. Soderling didn't face a break point in the match and had two breaks of his own in each the first and third sets.
Soderling pounded 15 aces and won 59 percent of the points in the first and third sets.
Andreas Seppi won a quarterfinals pairing against Soderling with a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9-7) triumph over Potito Starace. The match took more than 2 1/2 hours and, despite 10 aces and no double faults by Starace, resulted in Seppi's first ATP quarterfinal appearance in nearly a year.
No. 3-seeded David Ferrer eased past Fabio Fognini 6-3, 7-5, taking the final three games in improving to 30-6 on clay courts this year.
Also Pablo Cuevas stopped Pere Riba 6-4, 6-2 and didn't face a break-point situation in the match.
Ferrer and Cuevas will square off in Friday's quarterfinals.
