White Sox put P Peavy on disabled list

Chicago -- The Chicago White Sox placed right-handed starting pitcher Jake Peavy on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a detached shoulder muscle.

The team said Peavy injured the latissimus dorsi muscle in his right posterior shoulder area while pitching in the second inning of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Angels at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.

Peavy, a former Cy Young Award winner and two-time All-Star, was 7-6 with a 4.63 earned run average in 17 starts this year, his first full season with Chicago after being signed as a free agent. He has recorded 93 strikeouts and 34 walks in 107 innings.

Right-handed pitcher Jeffrey Marquez was recalled from Class AAA Charlotte to take Peavy's roster spot. Marquez, acquired from the New York Yankees in 2008, went 7-4 with a 4.02 ERA in 17 starts this season for Charlotte.
