MLB: New York Yankees 3, Oakland 1

Oakland, Calif. -- Javier Vazquez held Oakland to three hits over seven innings and Mark Teixeira homered Monday in the New York Yankees' 3-1 decision over the A's.

Vazquez (7-7) won for the first time in four starts, logging his first victory since June 12. The right-hander yielded two walks and struck out two. The only run he allowed came in the third when Cliff Pennington tripled and Coco Crisp drove him in with a sacrifice fly.

Joba Chamberlain tossed a scoreless eighth and Mariano River picked up his 19th save of the season for the Yankees, who won for the fourth time in five games.

Teixeira's sixth-inning solo blast off Ben Sheets (3-8) boosted New York's lead to 3-1. Sheets surrendered three runs on eight hits in 7 1/3 innings.
