Serena Williams defends Wimbledon crown

London -- Serena Williams breezed past Russian Vera Zvonareva in straight sets 6-3, 6-2, to successfully defend her Wimbledon title Saturday.

Williams, the world's top-ranked women's tennis player, laid claim to her fourth Wimbledon championship and 13th overall Grand Slam title, needing just 68 minutes to down the 21st-seeded Zvonareva, who was appearing in first-ever major tourney final.

Serena Williams defeated her older sister Venus in last year's All-England Club finale.

The match was fairly even until the eighth game, with the Russian holding her own against the American superstar. But it was then that Williams broke Zvonareva's serve with a running shot and took over, having little trouble in the rest of the first set.

Williams broke Zvonareva's serve in the fifth game of the second set and then poured it on. The Russian was able to hold off Williams a bit longer, holding serve in the seventh game.

But Williams quickly reasserted her dominance in the eighth game, finishing with a 6-2 win in the second set.
