CNN and Associated Press part ways

New York -- U.S. cable news giant CNN said Monday it was breaking off its association with the Associated Press effective immediately.

"Starting today, CNN news gathering will be the primary source of all content for all our platforms and services," CNN Worldwide President Jim Walton was quoted as saying by Vanity Fair.

"We will no longer use AP materials or services. The content we offer will be distinctive, compelling and, I am proud to say, our own," he said.

AP has already reported profits were down 65 percent in 2009 compared to 2008. But, AP spokesman Paul Colford said AP would carry on.

"We will continue to provide AP news to other TV networks and tens of thousands," of other news companies, Colford said.

Colford explained the decision saying, "We have been unable to reach an agreement with CNN."
