Stosur among winners in Eastbourne

Stosur topped Melanie Oudin 6-4, 6-4 in a brisk 76 minutes to win the first-round match. Stosur had 10 aces but also eight double faults, she had twice as many service breaks (4-2) as Stosur, however.

No. 8-seeded Marion Bartoli, the only other seeded player on the women's schedule Monday, topped Vera Dushevina 6-4, 7-5 behind four breaks of serve.

Also Monday, Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez outlasted Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 3-6, 7-5; Agnes Szavay slipped by Olga Govortsova 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2); Lucie Safarova stopped Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4, 3-6, 6-4; and Daniela Hantuchova defeated Anne Keothavong 6-4, 6-2.
