Dementieva injured, will miss Wimbledon

London -- World No. 5 Elena Dementieva, a tournament semifinalist the last two years, has withdrawn from Wimbledon because of a calf injury.

Dementieva retired from her semifinal match against Francesca Schiavone in the French Open because of the injury. She posted on her Web site Tuesday that she hasn't fully recovered from the problem and would skip the year's third tennis major.

Dementieva is 26-9 and has won two tournaments this year.

She lost to Venus Williams in the 2008 Wimbledon semifinals and to Serena Williams in the 2009 semis. Venus went on to win the 2008 title while Serena won in 2009.
