Germany's Benjamin Becker had the only two service breaks of the match in topping Davydenko 6-3, 6-4. Davydenko was playing in his first tournament since March due to a wrist injury.
Becker won only 17 points on Davydenko's serve but grouped enough winners to post a break in each set.
Top-seeded Roger Federer ran his Gerry Weber winning streak to 27 matches with a 6-1, 6-2 romp over Alejandro Falla. Federer lost nine points in eight service games, with most of those coming when Falla managed two break-point chances, although he wasn't able to convert either.
Mischa Zverev took a pair of tie-breakers in upsetting No. 6-seeded Jurgen Melzer 3-6, 7-6 (7-2); 7-6 (7-3); and Philipp Kohlschreiber stopped Marco Chiudinelli in Thursday's other matches.
Friday's quarterfinals will have Federer meeting Kohlschreiber, Zverev playing Becker, eighth-seeded Lleyton Hewitt facing Andreas Beck and Lukas Lacko going against Philipp Petzschner.
