Spooky Stevens, a representative for Hirshberg's family, confirmed Friday the noted publicist died of unspecified causes in Laguna Niguel, Calif., on March 7 following a bout with a brief illness, The Hollywood Reporter said.
As a publicist for studios like Paramount, Hirshberg handled numerous publicity campaigns for young actors and major films, including 1957's "Funny Face."
While a member of APJAC Prods, Hirshberg also worked on publicity efforts for "The Planet of the Apes" series and works such as 1967's "Doctor Dolittle."
During his career, Hirshberg also served as founding member of the Publicists Guild of America and completed two books, "The Making of 'All the President's Men' " and "The Legend of the Lone Ranger."
The Reporter said Hirshberg is survived by his daughters, Susan Davis and Jill Zinner; his son Robert Purvin; his companion, Madelyn Kamins; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a nephew, a niece and several cousins.
