Sun-Earth day to be marked by NASA webcast

Philadelphia -- NASA Edge, the U.S. space agency's televised talk show, will celebrate Sun-Earth Day 2010 with a live Web cast focusing on the sun and its effects on Earth.

The program will air at 1 p.m. EDT Saturday, originating from the exhibit floor of the National Science Teachers Association conference in Philadelphia.

NASA officials said the program will explore the magnetic storms that are created by the sun. Magnetism is also responsible for coronal mass ejections, the most violent explosions in the solar system, scientists said.

"The NASA Edge program will feature interviews with scientists, educators and students," the space agency said. "Viewers will hear discussions and see demonstrations about the power of magnetism and how magnetic storms affect them. Science centers and museums around the world will provide images from NASA satellites studying the sun and other multimedia products for educators, students and the public."

The Web cast will be available at http://www.ustream.tv/user/NASA_EDGE.
