NHL: Toronto 2, New Jersey 1 (SO)

Toronto -- Phil Kessel started a streak of three straight shootout goals Thursday that brought the Toronto Maple Leafs a 2-1 victory over New Jersey.

Kessel, Nikolai Kulemin and John Mitchell all scored in the shootout to offset a goal by Zach Parise in the first round.

Kessel also produced the only Toronto goal in regulation, scoring with 1:06 left in the first period, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 24 saves for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto remains in last place in the Eastern Conference despite winning five of its last six.

New Jersey began the night tied with Pittsburgh for the lead in the Atlantic Division, but fell one point behind when the Penguins blanked Boston.

Yann Danis made 25 saves for New Jersey, which had won four of its previous five.
