Tumi mobile power packs recalled

Washington -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Tumi Mobile Power Packs due to a fire hazard.

About 5,000 Mobile Power Packs were imported from China by Tumi of South Plainfield, N.J., and sold nationwide from August 2007 through March 2008 for about $135.

The power packs are devices that serve as rechargeable battery packs for DC electrical items, such as MP-3 players, mobile phones and PDAs.

The Tumi power packs are black and silver. The front of the units have a circular display panel and word "Tumi" engraved on a silver button.

The commission said power packs can burst into flame or explode while recharging.
Consumers were to stop using the power packs and contact Tumi for instructions on returning the item in exchange for a free replacement.

Consumers can call 800-530-0069 for information.
