Modesto City Schools officials said the English teacher, one of 40 at Enochs High School to receive layoff notices last week, told students who asked her about losing her job that she would have to become a stripper and sell her eggs to keep the income flowing, the Modesto Bee reported Monday.
The officials said the situation was resolved but did not specify whether the teacher, whose name was not released, was disciplined. The instructor, who was at the school Friday, declined to comment, the Bee reported.
Modesto Teachers Association Executive Director Megan Gowans said the teacher made "a poor choice of words," but the comments reflect the stress faced by teachers in the district, which sent a 370 layoff notices to teachers at various schools last week.
"It's difficult to put your emotions aside when you're future is uncertain," Gowans said.
