NASA awards engineering, design contract

Washington -- The U.S. space agency says it has awarded a civil and environmental design and engineering contract to a Gainesville, Fla., firm.

NASA officials said Jones Edmunds & Associates Inc. will provide professional services at the Kennedy Space Center and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida, Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and emergency space shuttle landing sites overseas.

The company will rehabilitate, modernize or provide new facilities under the five-year, $25 million contract, NASA said.

Included in the work are the design of sewage treatment facilities, road repair and development and parking facilities. NASA said the company also will be responsible for the design of new and reconfigured structures and facilities, interior finishes and site development. Additional work might involve HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) and plumbing, industrial and institutional electrical systems, grounding, lighting, lightning protection, fire alarm and fire detection systems and construction management.
