City offers 'adopt-a-pothole' repair plan

Krakow -- The Polish city of Krakow is inviting residents to adopt a pothole for repair and offering to erect a small plaque with the benefactor's name.

The city's repair budget can't keep up with the notoriously pocked streets, so the city's transport officials borrowed the idea of adopting out potholes from Niederzimmern, Germany, which has had success with the idea, the Krakow Post reported Monday.

A minimum payment of $95 will get the buyer a small pothole -- smaller than three square feet -- and the buyer can also designate which hole to fix, the report said.

Larger potholes will cost more on a sliding scale, officials said.

If the buyer wants, the city will erect a small plaque with the person's name on it, the Post said.
