Students compete at robot soccer

Milwakee -- Organizers of a robotics competition in Wisconsin said dozens of teams are competing to see whose creation makes the best soccer player.

The FIRST organization's Robotics Wisconsin regional tournament -- Friday and Saturday at U.S. Cellular Arena in Milwaukee -- features teams comprised largely of high school students from Wisconsin and nearby states. They are competing to see which team can create the robot with the most skills in a specialized soccer game, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Friday.

Non-profit FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) said each team received the same set of parts, with some components required and others optional. Teams are allowed to use extra parts and custom-made components, but the motors and controllers must pass inspection from FIRST officials.
