MTV News said the hip-hop star began serving his sentence immediately after the hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court. He reportedly could be released as early as October depending on his conduct in jail.
The sentencing was part of a plea deal Lil Wayne reached with prosecutors last November regarding his 2007 arrest after a gun was found in his tour bus.
The rapper's sentencing was delayed last month after the judge overseeing his case allowed him to undergo some necessary oral surgery before beginning his jail term. The sentencing date was rescheduled last week, but again postponed after a fire broke out in the courthouse.
