Pavlyuchenkova claims Monterrey title

Monterrey, Mexico -- Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova won two matches Sunday -- a delayed semifinal and the final -- to claim the Monterrey Open.

The No. 3 seed got the day rolling when she downed Latvian Anastasija Sevastova in a semifinal match that was carried over from Saturday due to rain. She then regrouped to overcome a first-set loss and dispatch second-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia 1-6, 6-1, 6-0 in the final.

Pavlyuchenkova, 18, racked up her first WTA title in her first-ever WTA Tour final match and took home $37,000 in prize money.

Hantuchova and Pavlyuchenkova were meeting for the third time. The young Russian beat the Slovak in Dubai while Hantuchova won their other match.

Hantuchova, 26, was playing in her first title match since 2007 and is now 3-7 lifetime in championship tilts.
