Twitter marks 10 billion tweets

Gigatweet, a Perth, Australia, site dedicated to tracking the total number of tweets in real time, said the 10 billionth post, which was "protected" and not open to the public, was uploaded to Twitter Thursday night, The Daily Telegraph in Britain reported Friday.

Previous Twitter milestones include the 1 billionth tweet, sent in November 2008, and the 5 billionth tweet in November of last year.

Twitter officials recently said about 600 tweets are uploaded to the Web site every second. It is projected to reach 20 billion tweets in July.
